Opera On Tap

The Southwest Washington Center For The Arts is proud to partner with Trusty Brewing Co. to present Opera On Tap during the May 6th First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver. This event is free and open to the public.

Grab a pint from Vancouver's favorite brewery while listening to all your favorite tunes from the world's greatest operas performed by the region's most talented local classical singers.

Opera On Tap is a national nonprofit organization with over 20 chapters with a mission "to expose new audiences to opera and classical music by taking opera and classical music out of the concert hall and performing it in alternative venues, to aid young performers in their development by giving them the opportunity to perform, and to help promote new classical works of contemporary classical and operatic composers."

The Center For The Arts is so pleased to have the opportunity to team up with local businesses to support local performing artists in the SW Washington community.

Donations may be made to the Center For The Arts project at the event, which will go toward presenting local artists in the community.

VSO Chamber

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Chamber Series

Following a postponement from its original date in March of 2020, the VSO Chamber Orchestra will make its long-awaited return to the stage under the direction of Dr. Igor Shakhman on May 8 at 3 p.m. at VSAA’s Royal Durst Theater. The VSO Chamber Orchestra will perform celebrated masterworks by Mozart, Haydn, Puccini, Tchaikovsky and Foote. The concert will also highlight two VSO virtuosi, Rachel Rencher, Principal Flute and Dan Partridge, Principal Horn. The performance commences with Mozart’s Divertimento for Strings K 138 a splendid and harmonically rich work written in the composer’s teenage years. Dan Partridge then performs Joseph Haydn’s elegant Horn Concerto No.2 in D major, followed by Puccini’s beautiful elegy Crisantemi. Later, Rachel Rencher showcases her talents in Foote’s 1918 romantic fantasy A Night Piece. The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s rapturous Serenade for Strings which was inspired by the work of Mozart and based on the form of the classical sonatina.
