Landmark Hotels Lead the Way in Arts Expansion

The AC Hotel by Marriott and Hotel Indigo are expanding the Arts to the Vancouver Waterfront with two separate arts events scheduled Friday, May 5. The AC Hotel will present live jazz music in their AC Lounge featuring the Shelly Rudolph Trio. Hotel Indigo will welcome local visual artists representing Aurora Gallery and their works in the hotel’s inaugural First Friday Art Walk lobby exhibit. Both arts events will be open to the public from 5pm to 8pm. The two hotels are leading the way in a focused expansion of the arts along the Vancouver Waterfront by the Vancouver Downtown Association, SWWA Center for the Arts, The Vancouver Arts and Music Festival, and others in the arts community. Hotel Indigo’s participation in First Friday offers a unique, collaborative art experience with local galleries. The inclusion of the arts in both the AC Hotel and Hotel Indigo demonstrates their support of Vancouver’s thriving arts community and VDA’s First Friday Art Walk.

The AC Lounge plays host for this Friday’s performance of the Shelly Rudolph Trio, and is open to both guests and locals alike. Art is an integral part of the AC brand. All AC hotels feature art selected to pay tribute to the local surroundings. This hotel’s art speaks to a nautical theme and the Columbia River. One large, 3D piece depicts the gorgeous shimmering glass-like effects on the surface of the gently flowing river. The hallway between the lobby and the bank of elevators showcases four blue and white pieces, each resembling a different mountain range in the area.

"The Hotel Indigo is proud to celebrate and support Vancouver's thriving arts community as part of VDA's First Friday Art Walk," states the hotel's Director of Sales, Candice Knilans. "Visitors entering the lobby of the hotel are introduced to local artists through an exhibit of unique, collaborative art". As part of their participation in VDA's First Friday Art Walk, Hotel Indigo is showcasing two local artists representing Aurora Gallery. Both artists will be at the exhibit and are available to discuss their works. The artwork will be for sale.

Bedtime Stories

Magenta Theater presents Bedtime Stories (As Told by Our Dad) (Who Messed Them Up)

It's Dad's turn to tell his three rambunctious kids their bedtime stories, but when he gets fuzzy on the details, the classics get creative: a prince with a snoring problem spices up The Princess and The Pea, The Boy Who Cried Wolf cries dinosaur instead, and Rumpelstiltskin helps turn all that pesky gold into straw. You may think you know your fairy tales, but not the way Dad tells them. May 6, 11am and 2pm
